Provides cable vibration control for cable stayed bridges.

OILES Cable Damper utilizes shearing resistance of a highly viscous fluid to damp the cable vibration induced by wind in cable stayed bridges.
 |

 |

Advantages

 |
One damper deals with both in-plane and out of plane vibration, damping the motion between the cables and the bridge deck, caused by changes in the cable tension. |
 |
It can absorb microvibrations, with amplitude of less than 0.5 mm. |
 |
As no seals are used, decline in performance due to friction and damage of sealing material as seen in oil dampers is avoided to maintain stable characteristics during service. |
 |
A simple durable and servicable mounting structure can eliminate backlash due to mechanical contact and improper installation. |

Structure

OILES Cable Damper consists of clamps attached to cables, and main body, filled with viscous fluid, attached to piers.

OILES SA-P viscous fluid

OILES SA-P viscous fluid is a polymeric material with high viscosity, excellent fire resistance, weatherability, durability, and thermal-stability.
The viscosity and resistance are stable even under repeated shear cycling.

Test

In order to verify the performance of the OILES Cable Damper, a cable vibration study was carried out on Sakitama Bridge (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport).
The results demonstrated excellent performance in vibration damping even for small vibrations with peak half amplitude values of 1.0 - 2.0 mm.
The effectiveness was also demonstrated with vibrations of amplitudes less than 0.5 mm.
