Passive mass-added damper

Precaution against wind-induced vibrations installed on the top floor of a building

Advantages

Effective in reducing even small vibrations due to wind as it has very low friction. |
Addition of a mass enables tuning of the vibration period of the building in horizontal directions. |
The height of the device is less than similar systems such as the simple pendulum. |

Structure

Roller bearing
Roller bearing section consists of upper and lower arc-shaped rails and rollers. To ensure the operation of rollers, a rack and pinion is used. |
Additional mass
Additional mass is provides working force to reduce building vibration. |
Viscous fluid damper
Viscous fluid damper dissipates kinetic energy of the additional mass as thermal energy, to enhance vibration control. |

Function

During an earthquake or strong wind, every building shakes at its own natural period depending on its rigidity and size.
TMD-RP and AMD move so that the additional mass of the vibration control system offsets the motion of the building to absorb vibration energy.

Active Mass-added Damper

Active vibration control system using a computer to control the shaking of building.

Advantages

It provides a wide range of vibration control using an effective control system. |
It is failsafe as it functions as a passive vibration control system if the drive unit is overloaded or power fails. |

Structure

| OILES AMD, based on a passive vibration control system (TMD-RP) using a roller pendulum, is operated by the drive unit and control system. |
