Structure

2-D floor isolation system consists of special steel plates and hardened ball bearings, pretensioned coil springs, viscous fluid dampers, and steel beams.

Function

Ball bearings support the load on the floor, isolate vibration with almost no friction, and extend the vibration period of earthquakes with coil springs.
Viscous fluid dampers restrict displacement of the floor caused by earthquakes and damp the vibration.

Test

Performance Test

In order to confirm the effect of seismic isolation, an experiment for large vibration was carried out using seismic records.
Acceleration on the isolated floor was reduced by 80 to 90%, demonstrating excellent performance.

Performance of seismic isolation system demonstrated in the Great Hanshin Earthquake |
| Banks and life insurance buildings in the Hanshin district which had adopted the OILES floor isolation system were subjected to the strong vibration of the Great Hanshin Earthquake.OILES floor isolation system demonstrated the performance of seismic isolation against the huge earthquake. Facilities in buildings such as CPU were not damaged and their functions were protected. Normal operation was possible immediately after the earthquake. |
