Sliding Base Isolation System Incorporating Multilayer Natural Rubber Pad

Responds to small vibrations and performs well during large deformation. OILES sliding material provides consistent performance.

 |

Advantages

 |
It can provide vibration isolation for light loads as well as providing large deformation performance as would be provided by a large scale isolation system. |
 |
It provides protection against a wide range of quakes from small vibrations to major earthquakes. |
 |
It can be used in conjunction with other isolation systems such as LRB or RB. |

Structure

SSR is a sliding natural rubber isolation system made of multilayer natural rubber pad with a low friction surface (OILES sliding material).

 |

Basic Features

This chart shows the relationship between force and displacement when SSR is subjected to extreme deformation as would be expected in a major earthquake.
Design values concur closely with physical measurements of performance, demonstrating high accuracy of the design method.
Characteristic restoring force of SSR is shown by two lines (bi-linear model). This characteristic makes structural modelling relatively simple.

Function

Function of sliding material and multilayer rubber pad

For small vibrations, shear deformation of the rubber layers provides the same isolation effect as conventional multilayer rubber bearings. For large vibrations, sliding materials slide to provide the same deformation performance as large scale isolation systems.
