Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about the Oiles Compact Floating Cutter are listed here.

Here, what does shear force indicate?

The example below indicates the conditions which shearing is possible.

In this case, value of shear strength *2 is within a shear force. *1 Therefore it works, if shear strength exceed over the shear force, shearing trim disparities may occur with OCFC, and trimcut may not be properly done.

*1 Force that allows trimming
*2 Force required for trimming

How should we view a stroke of 4 mm?

The stroke length is set based on the following concept.

What happens to durability if the product is used for over 500,000 cycles?

The reaction force of the spring will gradually decrease but function will not be immediately impaired.

Why are the cutter and spring positioned on the same line?

This allows the cutter to receive the upward thrust in a straight line. Therefore, there is no rattling sensation in the sliding parts, and high panel quality can be maintained.

What is the maximum angle that the cutter can handle?

Both trim angle and scrap cutting angle should be less than 10° . However, a backup version (OCFC5A-ST4-B) with a backup plate applied to the backside of the cutter can be used for scrap cutting angles of up to 20° .
※ No backup type prepared for OCFC13-ST6.

Can I replace cutters and springs?

Each is replaced as a set in its holder (cutter unit and spring unit).

Can I remove the cutter from the cutter holder?

Do not disassemble the cutter further to maintain its performance.

What is the extent of additional processing that the cutter can perform?

Any modifi cation should be done within the limits of *1 and *2 since the trim line is assumed with the dimensions shown in the fi gure below. Do not make a modifi cation to the *3 dimensions (trim length).

Is it okey to use the top surface of the cutter holder for receiving surface of the upper blade?

The top surface of the OCFC13 cutter holder can receive the overhanging portion of the upper blade. Please refer to the schematic drawing (P.19) for the dimensional tolerance of the holder section
※ OCFC5A is not designed to have a receiving surface, so when you use OCFC5A, be sure to check the dimensions and make shim adjustments or other adjustments as necessary.

How can I alter the trimming line?

There are four dowel holes for positioning. Please use the two red markings to start with, and use the other two yellow markings when changing the trimming line.

What sort of maintenance should I do?

Our compact floating cutters are maintenance-free.
No greasing of sliding parts is required.
